End Notes
1. The first genre that appears is a letter written by the character I created. The letter is called "A Day In A Life," it is a journal entry from Elizabeth's journal just about her thoughts and feelings about her current situation. For reference I used a website called "History in Focus" and a novel called "Who Is Helping the Homeless? Local, State, and Federal Responses." Both sources had sections on poverty and what it was like if you were homeless. They gave insight on the living conditions, programs and shelters, and homelessness in general.
2. The next genre that appears is the poem. The poem was called "Smirk" and it is about what it is like to be homeless and have people walk by and not help. It is the emotions and feelings of someone who is homeless. It describes the feeling of being alone and cold, and how frightening it is. To create this poem I used the website "The Victorian Web" An Overview". It has a lot of information about the Victorian era and provided a lot of useful information. Another helpful resource was the book "Victorian Childhood". It had a lot of information about being a child in the Victorian Era.
3. The next genre is the newspaper editorial called "The London Journal". To learn more about newspapers during the Victorian era i used a website called "Victorian Era Newspapers". It had a lot of helpful information about the topic and had good examples of what newspapers looked like during that time. I thought a newspaper editorial would be good to have to show what others who were not homeless thought about the homeless. It gave insight on shelters and ways to help.
4. The next the genre was a Salvation Army ad. I chose to do an ad about Salvation Army ad because in most of the websites and books, the Salvation Army was one of the only organization available to help. I used the website "The Victorian Web", specifically they had a section about the origins of the Salvation Army and what they did to help aid people in need. The website was super helpful in understanding what the Salvation Army did to help the homeless.
5. The last genre I created was a collage of images taken during the Victorian era. There were images of children on the street with lack of clothing and unwashed. The collage captured what it looked like to live on the street and how awful it is. I used the website "Hidden Lives Revealed" and "Biblioboard" both websites had a lot of information and images that i used to create the collage.
