Epilogue
Dear Readers,
Writing this topic was more difficult than I would have expected. Homelessness is something you will never truly grasp unless you experience it yourself, but researching it and seeing the statistics and hearing the stories, it is quite heartbreaking. For myself, researching this topic just made me even more grateful for what I have. Sometimes you take things for granted and do not realize how lucky you are. Spending this much time researching homeless children in the Victorian era helped make me realize that.
While researching this topic I was shocked to see how little there was, program wise and free shelters, to help aid the homeless during the Victorian era. Unlike today there are many programs and free shelters that are available for the homeless. I found there were a lot of shelters but you had to pay at least a penny for most of them, which homeless people, let alone children do not have. I found it was also very hard to find food or have other people who were generous enough to give them food or money. Also, in England it is brutally chilly most of the year, I couldn’t imagine being in the streets with nothing keeping you warm. Finding out all this information was very interesting, there is a lot of information about the Victorian era because it seems most people liked to write things down in journals.
Writing a research paper can be quite boring and ruin the process of researching and writing. I really enjoyed using the multi-genre approach instead of the traditional research paper. It was a lot more enjoyable and I like to be creative so it made creating these genres a lot of fun. I have never done a project like this so it was interesting to take what you had found through research and then create it into a specific genre. Over all, the experience of creating the genres through the research I found was a fun and creative assignment.
I hope when reading through my genres you were able to learn how hard it was during this era for homeless children to get off the streets and have a happy life. Being homeless in general must be difficult but I could not imagine being homeless and being a child at the same time. I feel that through my genres you are able to see how hard it was to be homeless during this time period, and what little there was to help them. I hope you learned as much as i did researching this topic.
Sincerely,
Frankie Petts
